Life isn’t always easy at the best of times, and it can be downright challenging when you are facing change, stress or pain. Despite what the media tells us, everyone has a “dark side” in which they experience critical thoughts about themselves, others or the world. Are you struggling with difficult feelings such as anger, anxiety, sadness, shame or numbness? Do you feel depressed, lonely, directionless or disconnected? Are you acting in ways you do not wish to? This could involve trying to excessively control life or withdraw from it, perhaps through substances (e.g. alcohol, drugs, binge-eating) or activities (e.g. shopping, sex, gaming, pornography). Transitions such as moving between jobs or cultures, marriage, divorce, parenthood, mid-life, “empty-nesting” and retirement can also contribute to feelings of confusion and unease. Individual adult counselling provides a safe, supportive space and effective strategies to manage overwhelming situations and states.
