In this hyper-connected, busy world, it is easy to be distracted from the present moment. Our minds get caught up in unhelpful thinking-feeling loops or lost in avoidance activities (e.g. social media, gaming). This tendency to be anywhere but the present moment is not our fault and actually reflects some of the “glitches” in the natural design of the human brain. However, where we focus our attention stimulates our brains and bodies in ways we might not want or even be aware of. Mindfulness helps train the mind to be non-judgmentally aware of thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations so we can slow down, focus and respond to life in ways that we do choose.
